Product Features

The T-Finity’s modern design provides a tape archive and backup solution to fully meet the needs of the enterprise IT, federal government, high performance computing, and media and entertainment markets, offering industry-leading scalability with the speed necessary to meet the requirements of the most data-intensive environments in the world.

The T-Finity advantages reach far beyond the necessary high performance and high capacity requirements of data-intensive storage. T-Finity redefines what customers should expect from modern tape archive and backup solutions, with unmatched features and significant CapEx and OpEx savings. The modern design saves customers up to 30% on the initial capital investment and 15-20% on annual recurring operational expenses.

Modern Enterprise Tape Storage

Spectra T-Finity is an intelligent enterprise library that provides a modern design with a highly flexible hardware architecture and an evolutionary management interface.

Highest Storage Density: Based on Spectra's TeraPack architecture, T-Finity provides a 44% to 71% improvement in data center floor space utilization. This dramatic, industry- leading storage density saves data center space and is also designed to fit into a standard rack-based layout. It fits collocated and standardized data center designs that do not accommodate non-standard equipment footprints. No other library on the market scales this much and this easily with a modern design that fits into any data center's physical layout.

Greatest Scalability: With over 30,000 tape cartridge slots in a single library frame-based architecture, T-Finity delivers unmatched size. The T-Finity design multiplies that figure through a library complex. The standard configuration supports 120 tape drives while provisioning far more drives given T-Finity's massive architectural capabilities. And you can store this extreme capacity without giving up the industry's leading density and ease of management that are hallmarks of Spectra enterprise libraries. The modern architecture of T-Finity lets you scale the product precisely to meet your individual requirements.  Base configurations of T-Finity start small with an entry capacity of 150 terabytes. T-Finity scales up to 91 PB of compressed storage in a single library and by connecting multiple libraries into a complex, T-Finity expands to offer the largest capacity tape library on the market.

The Most Flexible Architecture: T-Finity is designed with an any-frame, any-location mentality. Configure master, media and drive frames in any arrangement, letting you design the library to serve your requirements. Service frames are added on both ends of the library to support any necessary hot replacement of robotic assemblies during operation. Additionally, the service bays offer bulk entry/exit capability and the ability to add additional frames for more capacity without powering off the library. Now with T-Finity, customers do not need to schedule library downtime to add capacity to their tape library.

Highest Energy Efficiency: T-Finity consumes up to 50% less power than its nearest rivals and the exclusive BlueScale EnergyAudit™ feature displays and records real-time energy use.

High Availability: T-Finity is designed for the most uptime-sensitive data intensive clients. T-Finity's fault-tolerant, redundant-component design delivers 99.99% hardware reliability.  Highly available hardware paired with superior library, drive, media and health monitoring tools provide unmatched data integrity and availability.

Multiple Redundant Robotics: T-Finity's dual robotics design delivers outstanding performance coupled with the kind of fault-tolerance that uniquely challenging 24 x 7 environments demand. When you require high performance, T-Finity's dual robotics give you rapid tape exchanges and share the work load. Coupled with the TeraPack architecture, which moves up to 10 tapes at a time, the amount of work T-Finity can accomplish is unmatched by competitors.

Redundant RCM / LCM: The Robotics Control Modules (RCM) and Library Control Modules (LCM) within T-Finity provide failover for unexpected issues as well as planned upgrades. In high duty cycle, low down-time environments, where continuous operations are of paramount importance, T-Finity's fault tolerant architecture delivers the operational availability and reliability you need to keep your business running.

Storage Virtualization Architecture: T-Finity's storage virtualization architecture makes it easy to optimize library performance and use. All WWNs and serial numbers for devices presented to the storage network are virtualized. With this, you can replace a hardware component without reconfiguring the network and archive/backup software environment to recognize the new device. In the case of a tape drive failure, the virtualization architecture combined with the a Global Spare Tape drive enables T-Finity users to remotely fail-over from one tape drive to another without reconfiguring other components in the environment or even requiring any personnel to go on-site to access the physical library.

The Only Integrated Encryption and Key Management: Spectra T-Finity allows you to seamlessly add encryption and key management. Add AES-256 bit data encryption either through LTO-4 drives or through the library itself. This features lets you compress, encrypt and backup data on any media type in a single step. Spectra BlueScale Encryption provides a complete key management system that is fully integrated in the library and the library management interface. Spectra BlueScale Encryption eases the management of encrypted data, making secure data backup easy to implement, affordable, and practical.

Spectra Complete Lifecycle Management

mlm

Media Lifecycle Management (MLM): Maintains the integrity and availability of data by monitoring and reporting on more than 30 different metrics throughout the life of each tape. MLM removes the question of media reliability, ensuring the safety of your data by providing continuous assessments of your media's health. This ensures that you're not writing to poor quality media. MLM also gives you the opportunity to proactively migrate data from older media before its health becomes questionable.

Drive Lifecycle Management (DLM): The perfect complement to MLM, drive lifecycle management tracks expected utilization thresholds and other health variables, and proactively notifies you so you can replace a failing drive prior to a hard failure.

Hardware Health Monitoring (HHM): Hardware Health Monitoring delivers information on the health of vital library hardware components. It tracks usage statistics such as the number of moves, cycles, and distance moved then compares that data to expected useful life metrics for individual components. With that information, you can determine in advance when components may need to be serviced or replaced. HHM reduces the uncertainty around timing decisions regarding replacing batteries and filters or service transports to keep your library performing in top condition.

The Only Enterprise Library with Unified Management: Use the single BlueScale® interface to perform all management functions for the T-Finity, including setup, configuration, upgrades, security, and reporting— both locally and remotely. No other vendor provides one interface for all these activities. The powerful, easy to use interface gives you outstanding control over library configuration and partitioning, media moves, energy monitoring, performance reporting, media, drive and hardware health monitoring plus integrated encryption with key management. With one interface, you have a uniform point of command for all critical library functions. The same BlueScale interface used in the T-Finity is also used across all Spectra Logic libraries giving you a uniform management platform for your entire secondary storage environment.
